16 Grafiken von mir – gut 35 Jahre alt – werden derzeit unter dem Titel „The Uncertainty of Existence – The Macabre and Surreal Art of Andreas Noßmann“ in der Revolution Gallery in Buffalo, NY gezeigt. Doch wie kam es überhaupt dazu? Denn ich selbst habe nichts zu dieser Ausstellung beigetragen.
Ende Mai erhielt ich eine E‑Mail von einem Amerikaner mit der Bitte um Bestätigung, ob bestimmte Grafiken tatsächlich von mir stammen. Falls ja, wollte er gerne die passenden Bildtitel und Entstehungsdaten erfahren. Natürlich dachte ich zunächst – wie so oft – an einen möglichen Scam. Doch in diesem Fall handelte es sich tatsächlich um eine ernst gemeinte, freundliche Anfrage. Also tat ich mein Möglichstes, auch wenn mir letztlich nur meine uralte Excel‑Tabelle zu meinen frühen Radierungen zur Verfügung stand.
Der Sammler selbst schrieb mir Folgendes über seine Beweggründe:
“Thank you for the history of these works. I am almost 72 years old, a retired Industrial Sales Engineer and musician for the last almost 60 years. I only began to collect art the last 6 years or so, and prior to that, I had bought some Dali, and Escher prints, but nothing of substance. Once I found online auctions, I began to search for prints of interest, and found that the European houses had much more interesting offering than most Domestic sites here. While I really don’t understand the lack of interest in your work in Europe, I feel that there is a brand new market for your pieces in the US, as I have had a lot of interest, which brings me to this Retrospective of this phase of your oeuvre. I have gotten approx. 10 pieces finished. Here are the first of the photos showing the entire piece and the signature etc. I hope this will be sufficient to move forward with titles, and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity of time and energy.”
Ich vermute einmal, dass sich der Sammler, hier in dieser Galerie, eingemietet hat, um seine kleine Sammlung öffentlich präsentieren zu können. Die Eröffnung war bereits am Freitag, den 12ten Juni. Und da ich seitdem nichts mehr von ihm gehört habe, war die erwartete Resonanz dann vermutlich doch nicht so, wie von ihm erwartet. Aber mal abwarten …

Andreas Nossmann (Noßmann) is a prolific contemporary artist hailing from Brühl, Germany.
His work depicts figurative renditions of humans, creatures, and those who lie between. Nossmann’s unique attention to detail draws emotion and character to his figures, bringing forth the shadows that lie beneath the surface. Over a career of 40+ years, Andreas work has explored a diverse scenes that all return to an examining the darker side of the human condition.
This exhibit is a small piece of his vast career, offering a view into the mind of this renowned and influential artist.
